Pin-down

Off-ball screening action used to create advantages in transition or in set offense

Pin-down action is when the ball is entered from the ballside slot to the weakside high-post or weakside slot, and the passer sets a pin-down screen for a player in the corner or dunker-spot

Options

When the screener slips if defense switches early or doubles the pass

  • Screened player pops (opposite action)

When the screener sets the screen if defense stays

  • Screened player rejects if defense overplays (top locks)
  • Screened player flashes if defense trails (follows) and help is given at the basket
  • Screened player curls if defense trails (follows) and no help is given at the basket
  • Screened player pops (fades) if defense goes under

The screener will need to move opposite

  • Screener rolls/dives/ducks in if screened player pops or flashes
  • Screener pops if screened player rejects or curls

When might it be useful

4/5-out alignment where the team

  • Has a good playmaker in the post
  • Has a good screener in the post
  • Attacks well using away /off-ball screens
