Penetrate-Kick-Next

On-ball penetration action used to create advantages during half-court offense

What is it

Penetrate, Kick, Next (penetrate, pass, pass) is when the ball penetrates the paint on a drive or a post-up, and defense sends a help defender. Resulting in a kick-out in the direction of the help.

Options

When help is provided and ball is kicked out

  • Receiver shoots the catch, if open, in range and in rhythm and if defender is slow on the close-out
  • Receiver drives the catch, if defender rushes the close-out, and the paint is clear
  • Receiver nexts the catch, if defender rushes the close-out, and the paint is packed
